Capsule biography
Tom Abate is a former small-press publisher turned newspaper reporter who lives in San Leandro. In his blog, MiniMediaGuy.org, Tom writes about the business models, techniques and practical concerns of new and independent media. A Brooklyn native and U.S. Navy veteran, Tom is a UC Berkeley graduate who earned his master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University. Since 1992 he has worked as a business reporter for the San Francisco Chronicle, covering science, technology, biotechnology, economics and the business culture of Silicon Valley. He teaches writing part-time through UC Extension. The father of three children, Tom’s hobby is gardening.
